How To Play Basketball Blog – Improving Your Game Through Pick-up Games
So you want to get better at playing basketball right? As with anything, if you want to get better at it you have to actually do it. If you want to be a better cook then you better be in the kitchen. If you want to be a better student then you better be in the classroom. If you want to be a better basketball player then you better be on the court.
I wrote this book because I know some of you are on the court, all the time, and still are not getting better. Some of you are getting better but not good enough to start for your school. Maybe you are starting but you are not getting the attention from scouts and coaches at the next level. If you want to get results that you have never achieved then it is time to look at your world differently. My book will not ask you to spend more time in the gym, although it may lead you to that point. All I will ask you to do is think about your practice methods differently.
Even if the competition in your area is horrible you can still get a lot out of a pick-up game. (A side note: If you are the best player where you play then you need to find a different place to play.) The reason why you can still get a lot of out a pick-up game is because you can develop good habits no matter where you play. You have to recognize pick-up games, scrimmages, open gyms, etc, for what they are: practice. You are practicing for the game, so that means you should be treating it as such. You should be going hard. You should be working on fundamentals. You should be developing your skills. Make sure you are using pick-up games to get better otherwise you are missing out on a “3 on 0 fast break’s” worth of opportunity.
